This instructor had a great opportunity to empower students at the beginning of his lesson (at about 1 minute into the lesson) by allowing them to share what they already knew about asymptotic notation. What could the instructor have done to do this?

Watch this clip from the beginning, but notice what the teacher does at 1 min 10 sec of the video to eMpower the students. Is it likely that her strategy of giving students freedom to do what they want within the perimeters of the assignment is motivating? Is it too much freedom for students to handle?
