Information about the Survey

The survey being created will include the 20 items from the short-form College Student version of the MUSIC Model of Academic Motivation Inventory. This inventory includes 4 items for each of the 5 MUSIC scales (see the User Guide for more information). Other motivation-related questions can be added to the survey by selecting from the options below.

When will you administer the survey?

The survey should be given at a time in the course when you want to know about students’ motivation perceptions. That can happen as early as the end of the first class meeting (not at the beginning of the first class because students don’t yet have perceptions from their time in the course). Typically, the survey is given no earlier than about one-quarter into the course (during the 4th week of a 15-week course) and as late as the last week of the course (to assess students’ perceptions of the entire course).
